Artist-in-Residence
Announcement: Conclusion of the Artist in Residence Program
Since its inception, the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS) has hosted an Artist in Residence Program that invited artists and researchers to provide support by stimulating new creative work that fused scientific intellect with artistic sensibilities.Over the past twelve years, 22 artists and researchers from an array of different countries have been invited to IAMAS, and the school has received high commendation as a site for creative productions.
The IAMAS Artist in Residence Program has been long supported by many individuals, resulting in innumerous achievements and much popularity. As it has accomplished its initial goals, this year the program has been brought to completion.
For the aforementioned reasons there will be no open call for the program from 2009 onwards. However, there are plans to make preparations for a new program.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude toward all of those who have come to support the AIR Program over the years, and hope for your continued good favor in the future.
Since IAMAS' establishment artists have been selected by open application. Individuals chosen are those who actively produce experimental works that are nonconformist to genre frameworks and existing art. The artist's creative activities are supported for a six-month period at IAMAS. Students observe creations onsite, and through contact with talented artists they are able to learn about the practice of production.
By connecting with the culture and school environment of IAMAS the artist also gains a great stimulation and combines this with his/her research and production. Many works created during artists' stays at IAMAS have also received international prizes. Thus far IAMAS has invited a total of twenty artists.
