IAMAS-AIR (Artist in Residence) Program 2010 Application Information

Application Requirements
- Applicants must be researchers or artists in a field related to media art, media design, or media products, and they must have a track record of quality work.
- Applicants must have proficiency in either Japanese or English to the point where language doesn’t hinder daily life and communication.
- Applicants should be in good health. *There may be cases where family members are not allowed to come along.
How to Apply
Please turn in the documents and reference materials listed below. Documents must be in either English or Japanese. Please note that materials turned in will not be returned to the applicant.

*We suggest overseas applicants indicate “CULTURAL PURPOSE ONLY. NO COMMERCIAL VALUE” on the package.
- Artist-in-Residence Program Application Form (Form A)
- Curriculum Vitae and Record of Activities (Form B)
- Creative Activity Planned During Stay (Form C)
- Letter of Recommendation * The letter of recommendation must have the original signature of the author, and is to be sent with the other application documents. Please note that the letter of recommendation cannot be accepted if sent by e-mail or FAX, or if sent separately from the other application documents.
- Introduction of representative past works * The format of this document (software, portfolio, etc.) is up to the applicant. However, when using software, the applicant should make sure it works in a standard operating environment and write down any details necessary for proper operation..
- Two (2) identification photographs (30mm×40mm) taken within the past 6 months * (After acceptance decisions have been made, these photos will be used immediately for visa application purposes, so be sure to turn in proper ID photographs)
- A copy of proof of graduation
- A copy of Passport

Application Deadline
After expressing interest by e-mail, application documents must be received at IAMAS by June 11, 2010.
Evaluation
The screening committee, made up of IAMAS faculty members, will evaluate applications. If deemed necessary, there may be an interview, or questions over the phone.
Notification of Screening Results
We will send the results to applicants at the end of June.
Support from IAMAS
- Facilities and Equipment IAMAS will designate a workspace for the artist, and the artist may use anything within that space. Equipment may also be rented from the school.
- Economic Support -Round Trip Airline Ticket
- Housing Support IAMAS will arrange an apartment for the artist, but rent, building fees, gas, electric, and water will be paid using the monthly stipend.
-Monthly Stipend of 320,000 Yen (Pre-tax)
Expectations of Artists in Residence
- Give a presentation on the work created during their residency- Have an exhibition or presentation at this year’s Ogaki Biennale
- Collaborate with IAMAS students and faculty, and have a strong desire to interact with fellow artists
- Conduct workshops for students and local area residents
- Make and turn in a video or photo-based document about the work or exhibition created during the residency
Copyright of Work Created During Residency
- The copyright of the work created during residency is retained by the artist under the following conditions:- When the artist presents the work any place other than IAMAS, they mention it was made at IAMAS in the credits.
- The artist must actively cooperate with IAMAS in the event that IAMAS wishes to re-exhibit the piece after they have returned home. - When their residency is finished, the artist must leave a copy of their work at IAMAS. For cases where a copy is hard to make, the artist must leave a series of documents explaining the work.
- The artist must acknowledge that the copy or documents left behind may be used freely by IAMAS for educational research purposes or in publications.
