Surface Interface Design Project's research works is presented on Open Space 2011 exhibition at NTT InterCommunication Center [ICC].

These presentations of the group projects at IAMAS detailed the results of interdisciplinary, cross-studio research as well as collaborative efforts with other research institutions and companies.

The Ubiquitous Interaction Research Group gave a presentation at Interaction 2011 about their collaborative research with the Japanese printing company NISSHA.

They presented an image-based generative music system and a physical dimmer system that allows users to control room lighting with body movement. The talk also detailed "Flip Interface", an add-on for iPads that allows users to turn the page of an eBook and experience a tactile sensation similar to that of traditional books.

Each project gave a presentation detailing its progress, current activities and future research direction. The Surface Interfacing Project is currently working on utilizing conductive ink to create innovative interfaces.

The above picture is an example of one of the ideas they have come up with. By tearing out a perforated center piece and affecting the resistance along circuits printed with conductive ink, the greeting card itself will can deliver an audio message to the recipient.

The Surface Interface Design Project experimented with combining circuits and ceramic materials using conductive paint.

This Project is researching for material engineering, using Japanese paper, Urushi, ABS, Ceramic, and more. We are trying to matching with industrial materials and interfaces.

In the DSP course, students participate in the project "Pursuing fresh, DSP-esque exhibition methods."

In the DSP course, students participate in the project "Pursuing fresh, DSP-esque exhibition methods." While creating their individual works, students will also strive to create an optimal exhibition space outside of existing conventions.

In order to create opportunities to communicate with others via these exhibition spaces, we have been regularly participating in activities that pull us outside the sphere of IAMAS and allow us to interact with a wider variety of people and regions. First-year students in the DSP course will present their work, as a sort of collection of the project's results.
