WELCOME PARTY 2006


A welcome party will be held for guests to get on friendly terms with IAMAS students and faculty. It will be a modest party, but drinks and snacks, as well as a DJ and performances will be provided. We hope to see you there.

::Gunalab NADARAJAN (Critic, Professor at Penn State University)::

Critic/curator born in Singapore, Gunalan has commented on Southeast Asian media art and contemporary fine art at festivals and conferences around the world.
He is currently teaching at Penn State University.
Gunalan is also engaging in planning and operation of Gifu's Ogaki Biennale 2006 as co-director.




::YOSHIOKA Hiroshi (Professor at IAMAS)::

Hiroshi Yoshioka is Professor of Philosophy and Media Aesthetics at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS) in Ogaki, editor of Diatxt., the critical quarterly of the Kyoto Art Center, and head of the editorial board of the Japanese Association of Semiotic Studies.
He is the author of "Shiso" no genzaikei: Fukuzatsukei, dennokukan, afodansu (The Present Tense of Thought: Complex Systems, Cyberspace, and Affordance Theory, Kodansha, 1997) and Joho to seimei: No, kompyuta, uchu (Information and Life: The Brain, Computers, and the Universe, with Hisashi Muroi, Shin'yosha, 1993).
He has also published translations of works such as Mark Poster's The Mode of Information: Poststructuralism and Context, Bruce Mazlish's The Fourth Discontinuity: The Co-Evolution of Humans and Machines, and Hal Foster's The Anti-Aesthetic: Essays on Postmodern Culture.
He was the general director of the Kyoto Biennale 2003.




::TANAKA Katsuki::

Born 1966.
In 1985 Katsuki won the New Comic Book Artist Award in Shogakukan's weekly magazine Big Comic Spirits and became a comic book artist.
He has released the comics Bakadoriru and Ossu! Tonco-chan and the DVD SUNDAY.
Katsuki has worked in a broad range of media including openings and singles for television shows, commercials and video clips.
Began broadcast of Dedio Night * in 2004.
Held first personal exhibition in 2005, "Tanakanao Exhibition ? The World of Ambient Manga".

::TSURIKICHI Dedio::

Deep-sea fishing dedio* established by IAMAS students TANAKA Nobuo and KONISHI Nanae.
The name is after a style of recording a dedio while fishing, but in fact, they aren't great at fishing.
Actually, lately they record the dedio without going fishing.

*dedio: A personal internet radio station. Dedio is a contraction of the Japanese detchi-age rajio (make believe radio)

::Marcia Vaitsman (Artist, Artist-in-Residence at IAMAS 2004)::

Born in Brazil 1973.
Media artist since 1995 - activities focused in Sao Paulo and Koln.
Marcia has exhibited and won awards at art festivals in Brazil and Europe.
She was invited to IAMAS Artist-in-Residence program in Japan for the first term of 2004.
One of her works produced at IAMAS, The Elephant Cage, was shown at 15th Videobrasil and received honorary mention at the Tokyo Video Festival.
