DSP Summer School 2001 is based upon the workshop which focused on sound generation with use of Digital Signal Processing and the application for music and multimedia. This year, we will emphasize the new possibilities of Max4/ MSP2 as well as Nato. We will look for new technology and new art expression with aide of DSP.

It will be third time since we started the DSP Summer School, we however, will try a different approach this year.

First of all, it will be taken place at Gifu Academy of Forest Science and Culture, where offers a relax environment and is surrounded by nature. This allows the participants to concentrate his own works and his exercises.

We may plan to have some entertainment, such as a campfire and hiking in the forest during the Summer School.

We will invite Klarence Barlow as a main guest. Under his direction, the participants practically exercise and try to produce her or his own work in the workshops.

Before this main workshop, the lectures for a beginner will be held, and the stuff will assist the participants as their tutors.

In addition, the lectures for advanced users will be taken place. Higher level subjects for technology and art expression technique will be stressed in the workshops.

Furthermore, there will be two concerts during the Summer School. Carl Stone and others will perform in the first concert, and and ENSEMBLE d'AME will play some works of Barlow and others in another concert. These may reflect what the participants learn as some vivid examples.

While you may discover many different sorts of subjects and useful information in the Summer School, you can enjoy a fruitful time in the forest.

It is open for everyone who is interested in Max/MSP, Digital Signal Processing, and Multimedia.

See you in the forest, this summer !
