作曲家。1958年東京に生まれる。1974年都立国立高校入学以来友人と共に結成したロックバンドを中心に音楽活動始め1978年渡独。国立ベルリン芸術大学で作曲をイサン・ユンに、1985年より国立ロベルト・シューマン音楽大学でギュンター・ベッカーに師事する。1986年より独学でコンピューターを学び、以来コンピューター音楽がその創作活動の中心となる。1985年ハムバッヒャー国際作曲コンクール(ドイツ)佳作、1989年第10回入野賞第１位、1991年「今日の音楽・作曲賞」第２位、1992年第14回ルイジ・ルッソロ国際音楽コンクール(イタリア)第１位、1995年村松賞新人賞などを受賞すると共に、ヨーロッパを中心に日本やアメリカ、カナダで様々な作品が演奏されている。また、ＣＧアーティストとのコラボレーションによる一連のインターアクティブ・コンピューター・インスタレーションや1991年にメルダックよりリリースされたハウス・ミュージックのアルバム「LuckyChoi」など、その活動は多岐に渡る。

Composer. Miwa Masahiro was born in Tokyo in 1958, and formed a rock band in highschool in 1974. In 1978 he moved to Germany to attend the National Academy of Art in Berlin, where he studied composition under Isang Yun. Since 1985 he has studied under G殤ther Becker at the Robert Schumann National Academy in D殱seldorf. He has been teaching computer- and electronic music at the Academy since 1988. In 1986 Miwa began to teach himself computer programming, and has since focused on creating computer music.
Miwa has been the recipient of many awards for his work, including: the Hambacher Prize (Germany,1985); the Irino Prize (Japan,1989); second prize in the Music Today Composition Contest (Japan,1991); first prize in the Concorso Internationale Luigi Russoro (Italy,1992); and the Muramatsu Award (Japan,1995).
His works have been performed in Europe, Japan, the United States and Canada. He has been involved in other projects, including the Opera "The New Era" (2000) and collaboration works for interactive computer installations. He has released numerous CD albums as follows: "Rotk角pchen-Begleiter" (1995), "Ges穫ge des Ostens" (1998), 4 CD's of "Ascending Music for the End of Century" (1999), "The New Era, Song of Believers" (2001) and "Silhouette of Words, or Alleluia" (2001).
In 1995 he was appointed as a lecturer at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and since 2000 he has been professor at IAMAS (Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences) in Gifu, Japan.
