The Art of Listening
How conscious are you of “listening” in your daily life? It can be said that “listening” is the foundation of all human interactions. Listening is also very important in our research and creative activities. From personal narratives to public interviews, researchers, field workers, artists, archivists, engineers, and many others practice “listening.” Conversely, although “storytelling” is a jointly generated process through the mutual action of storyteller and listener, much attention has been paid to “storytelling” and little discussion has been given to the “listening” of the listener. In fact, many probably consider “listening” to be a passive activity. In addition, “listening” is an act that relates to the past and present, and is not often thought to lead to the future. In this project, “listening” will be positioned as an expressive technique and considered as a spontaneous and imaginative act through approaches concerned with its methodology, practice, and philosophical significance.
