デザイン思考など、社会の問題を発見し、物やシステム開発を通じてそれらを解決しようとするデザイン方法論について、2004年頃から事例が増えてきているものの、実効する人やその経験則、対象としたフレーム自体の設定、あるいは提案した解決方法自体の影響も含め、方法論自体に関する検証の時期に来ていると考えています。
　消費を前提とした社会に閉塞感を感じ、サスティナビリティへ移行しつつある状況下において、その背景にある社会性や人々の価値観の変化も踏まえ、新たな問いのあり方やデザインプロセスが関わる影響やその範囲についてを模索する必要があります。特に地方や企業において、デザインが一つのツールとして捉えられる傾向があり、プロセスの理解やデザインとの関わりも含め、関係性を再検討しなければなりません。
　これまでの原因と結果に基づいた近代的デザイン方法を乗り越えるためにも、全体性やその影響なども含め試行し、デザインする人とデザインする対象との関係を考え、社会とデザインが影響する範囲を検討してきました。

Although the number of cases studies concerning design methodologies such as design thinking, aimed at detecting social problems and solving them through the development of products and systems has been increasing since around 2004, we believe that the time has come to inspect the methodologies themselves, including the practitioners, the rules of thumb they follow, the framing of the targeted issue, and the impact of the proposed solutions.
　We feel a sense of hopelessness in our consumption-based society. The reason behind this is due to current circumstances where there is a move towards sustainability drawing on changes in people’s sense of values and sociality. There is a necessity to explore new approaches to asking questions, as well as the impact and scope associated with design processes. For businesses and local regions in particular there is a tendency to perceive design merely as a tool. Therefore, we must reexamine our relationship with design, including our understanding of the process and how we engage with it.
　Additionally, in order to overcome modern design based on cause and effect, we have trialed approaches that take into account the whole and its implications, considered the relationship between the designer and the object of design, and examined the scope of influence that design has on society.
