Workshop given by Lecturer Keiko Kobayashi (DIT Course)
In this workshop, a robot running on a simple program (Lego Mindstorms) is used to draw pictures. The robot can only draw simplistic patterns, but we will try to draw a large picture by repeating the drawing with all participants. We will experience the kind of world that can be drawn using the elements of a program and a robot's movements.

Became a researcher at the Culture Media Center in IAMAS after graduating from IAMAS, she moved on as part-time lecturer in DIT Course at IAMAS. She is involved in the planning and production for workshops and exhibits that used digital media.

The public lecture given by Associate Professor Akitsugu Maebayashi (Studio 1) explores how seeing and listening is comprised in the body. Also, how the body or concepts of body will change through technology. Further, concrete examples will be introduced as we consider how this theme is handled in the field of arts.

Akitsugu Maebayashi Associate Professor (Studio 1)
Appointed to Associate Professor at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences this fiscal year. He presents works that serve as the gplaceh of experience, focusing on gsoundh as the contact point between the body and environment. His major works include Audible Distance, Sonic Interface, and [I/O] distant place.

Negative topics on IT enterprise such as the arrest of Livedoor's President Horie, etc. have been exposed to the media. Is it promising to learn IT? What contributions will IT give toward a company's future? Will IT be practical in the society? By questioning IT again, we look toward future uses of IT and its anticipated impact.

Lecturer Atsuhi Shinjo (AND Course)
Solution Architect. He is a lecturer at International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences, an advisor at Gifu Prefecture of Information Technology, a part-time lecturer at Kyoto University. He works on many research developments of information science, which look ahead to application in real society. For these achievements he has received the Most Valuable Professional Award from Microsoft for three consecutive years from 2004.
Video Works Created at IAMAS (August 6 (Sun) 10:30-12:00)
Lecture given by Associate Professor Shinijiro Maeda (Studio 2) who selected impressive works among the short films that he produced at IAMAS up to now. Several works including animation, live-action filming, fiction, documentary, etc. will be shown while explaining the differences of techniques and expressions.

Associate Professor at Institute of Advanced Media and Sciences. He has headed the field of live-action expression at IAMAS since itfs establishment. He presents at both national and international film festivals and positively recommends collaboration with artists in other fields.

Lecturer at International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences. Formerly a technician in an electronic instrument manufacturing company, he became a lecturer at IAMAS in 2004 teaching physical computing. Main interests are electronic instruments and user interfaces. His current major research is GAINER.

There will be an opportunity to try out making of a system that broadcasts live videos through internet, which is currently in use for vocalist concerts, etc. There are easy explanations on basic workings and settings, so anyone with internet access at home can participate.

This is a workshop to experience making cut-out animations. Cut out the illustrations and photos and move them slowly while taking pictures one by one to make the animation. Anyone is welcome to participate.

Rice-Duck Robot Research (August 6 (Sun) 15:00-16:30)
Lecture by lecturer Takahiro Kobayashi
IThe lecture will introduce the collaborative research of Rice-Duck Robot as a case to show that this kind of research can also be done at IAMAS. Rice-Duck Robot supports rice cultivation without relying on pesticide by assisting weeding work in the rice field. This work researches the sensor that used to control robotfs posture and the autonomous motion using GPS.

Takahiro Kobayashi (Studio E)
Lecturer at Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences. Doctor of Engineering. His PhD thesis topic was Machine Intelligent System Techniques for Automatic Harvest Systems. As IAMAS focuses a theme of real world oriented interface, he involves in projects such as Info.Table, Info.Wall, GeoMedia, etc.
