Implementing a display-type PR format with Kiosk

2022

A new form of PR designed with the spatial design system Kiosk

We developed a plan for a PR method to present information about IAMAS and its collaborative activities in various settings, and used the spatial design system Kiosk to put the plan into practice. We collaborated with LAP, a design collective made up from IAMAS graduates, in the whole project from planning to installation. In 2022, we held exhibitions at IAMAS OPEN HOUSE 2022 and Ogaki City Hall.

Purpose and outcome

We have hitherto presented the outcomes of our research and industry-academia-government cooperation projects via the web and pamphlets, as well as in open house events, graduate exhibitions, and other settings organized by IAMAS. However, owing to the characteristics of these media and event formats, we were only able to reach a limited audience, such as people who already knew about or were interested in IAMAS. We thought that a display-type PR format would help us raise publicity outside our institute, thereby increasing opportunities for us to raise our profile in the community and garner attention to IAMAS. To this end, we designed a variable display format applicable to a variety of settings.
We decided to utilize Kiosk, a spatial design system jointly created by the Action Design Research Project and LAP, a design collective made up from IAMAS graduates. With Kiosk, you can easily make changes to the spatial structure by using optional parts and joint parts, which makes it possible to display a diverse range of content in various settings.
We collaborated with LAP this time, too; it created designs for the space, poster, and other elements. We created new optional parts for Kiosk, namely a bookshelf for distributing and browsing IAMAS publications, and a shelf on which you can install a monitor.
We held exhibitions at IAMAS OPEN HOUSE 2022 in July 2022 and at Ogaki City Hall in November 2022. We revamped the content in the Ogaki City Hall exhibition, presenting the outcomes of IAMAS Kodomo Daigaku. This display-type PR format makes it possible to present information about IAMAS’activities in a way that integrates multiple types of media, including posters, pamphlets, and videos. We intend to apply this format to other displays in the future.
