A variety of project studies are being conducted in IAMAS. One of them, the “Visions in Motion project,” exhibited a new work at the exhibition ‘Ugokizm ~ to move, make move, and see movements ~’ held in collaboration with Suitopia and IAMAS at the Suitopia Center in Ogaki-shi.
The three new works announced this time each touted the individual themes of “to move,” “to make move,” and “to see movements,” and each of them encouraged the viewer to experience them in a different way.
“Ugokist” is an interactive artwork featuring 24 tablets with a display and camera assembled together to create one large display. The viewer standing in front of the screen, can see their own various forms transforming in real time, and then move their body to engage with the images again. Despite the subject moving around and each tablet being independent, the overall cohesiveness of the tablets seemed to represent the contemporary aspect.
“Smartphone Studio” allows you to put your smartphone on the dolly, and take home the video you have captured. The small and long stage prepared for smartphone use had several unique innovations and it was a work that made the viewer question the differences between the world as seen through their eyes versus the world as seen through the phone.
“Kenshoko” is a simple and phenomenal artwork that does not use digital devices, but rather, uses the glass cases in the exhibition room. The projected light hits the objects in the case as striped shadows on the glass surface, and contour lines emerge from those stripes and shadows. We encouraged consideration towards the form of objects that we usually perceive without second thought.
In the exhibition it was possible to take photos and videos, and it became a place to think about looking, experiencing, and moving. In the venue many children actively got involved in the work and enjoyed themselves freely.
