The “Gifu land of clear waters” Cultural Festival 2024 “Media Expressions in the Age of Digital Transformation – considering art from a new everyday” was held from November 1 to November 7, 2024. During that period there were two physical venues at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (Workshop 24 – Floor 1 in the attached library, and Sopia Cabin – Floor 7), and online works held on the network and live broadcasting were exhibited at the same time.
The director of the exhibition, Shigeru Matsui (Professor at IAMAS), positions the exhibition by stating that “following the global coronavirus pandemic, there is a trend towards communication mediated by digital technologies. In this exhibition, through this new everyday, considerations that hint towards further digital transformation (i.e., DX) are brought together.”
During the session on November 4, the talk event “Considering art from a new everyday” was held in the attached IAMAS library. The speakers Minoru Hatanaka (Chief Curator of ICC), Yun Jihe (Specific Researcher, The National Art Center, Tokyo), and Shigeru Matsui (Professor at IAMAS) were welcomed. They spoke about their exhibition endeavors prior to the coronavirus pandemic, after which there was a lively exchange of ideas concerning this exhibition.
Additionally, the talk event was also preceded and followed by another showing by Kana Taniguchi (Musician) of Masahiro Miwa’s composition work (Majinai Twitter). The two performances, which took place facing Masaki Fujihata’s “Light on the Net,” took place amidst the presence of spectators gathered at the venue, viewers watching online, and participants engaging with the flickering light bulbs of “Light on the Net.” The director of the exhibition, Shigeru Matsui pointed out that “in particular, I would like to focus on transcending the gap between space and time, and to be conscious of the “/” that connects “here / elsewhere” with the “past / present / future,” and that this was a time to experience these new perspectives in real time.
