media: film installation with two screens


The film installation entitled Out of Home uses two screens next to each other, where two different film loops are simultaneously played back. This work is made from the footage shot for the documentary film with the same title. The former inhabitant of the Kajimura residence returns to the house, now open to the public as an example of traditional town houses, to order the remains inside the storage. The prettily restored traditional building is an empty shell, which neither reveals its history nor the lives of the people who once lived here. Through the people's memories and the excavated remains, the house temporarily becomes a "home" again, but at the same time it is manifested utterly as part of the past.
