About the Intensive Course for Persons with Work Experience
The Intensive Course for Persons with Work Experience is designed for people who have achievements in producing artworks or engaging in social activities, or who are involved in pioneering research and development in the working world. On the premise that these achievements will be used as the basis for research at IAMAS, this course is designed to condense the normally two-year master’s program into a one-year curriculum. (Established in 2019)
Expected Candidates
This course is for students who wish to take a new step forward by reflecting on their past work productions, social activities, or research and development at a company, etc., relating them to existing knowledge and research areas through feedback from faculty members and students from various backgrounds, and thoroughly verbalizing their activities, ideas, and positions as a master's thesis.
In addition, it is necessary to meet with the faculty member you wish to receive research guidance from beforehand, discuss the contents of your research and put it in writing, obtain approval for receiving guidance for your master's research, and then receive a "Research Guidance Approval Form" from that faculty member.
It is not a stand alone course held in the evening or on weekends, but rather a condensed version of a master's program that normally takes two years to complete. This allows students to focus on reflecting back on their own activities, learn about related fields and topics, and be able to effectively verbalize their findings. In addition, through working as teams with other students in the same year, students can build relationships that will continue even after the completion of the program.

Of the classes listed in the "Master's Program Courses" section, the introductory classes and special research classes are offered in a condensed schedule for this course. All their classes are the same as those offered to students who are in the two year program.
In order for the course to be considered completed, in addition to having completed over 30 credits and receiving the necessary research guidance, they must pass the final review of their master's thesis or their master's thesis and master's work, as well as a final examination.
For students entering in 2022, the entrance fee will be 338,000 yen (226,000 yen for those who live in the prefecture) and tuition will be 535,800 yen, for a total of 873,800 yen (761,800 yen for those living in the prefecture).

Is there a difference between this degree and the two year degree?
The degree given to those who complete the 1 year course is the same degree (Master of Media Creation) given to students who have completed the 2 year course, whether it be through the recommendation entrance exam or the general entrance exam.
Are there any counseling sessions for higher education?
We are planning to hold several college counseling sessions each year. For a detailed schedule, please refer to the "School Information Sessions." In addition, you can apply for the facility tour, as well as a consultation with a faculty member of your choice at any time by clicking on the "Request a School Tour" link. After you start considering enrollment, it is recommended that you start meeting with professors as soon as possible.
How often do I need to come to school?
During the first semester, students will need to come to school almost every day. For the second semester, it is possible to make it about two days per week, depending on how you choose to take the classes (assuming that you are also taking time to work on your master thesis.)
Are there student dormitories?
Located in a residential area about 1.3 km from campus, the living space is equipped for comfort and functionality, including unit baths, beds, and electric cooking appliances. 22,800 yen/month, 40 rooms total (private rooms, Western-style tatami mats, air-conditioning and heating, all electric, with car and bike parking). Keep in mind that in the event that there are too many applicants it may not be possible to stay in the dormitories. For more details please refer to "Student Dormitories."
What career options are there after graduation?
IAMAS is a pioneering school for advanced media creation, and many of its graduates have found employment in new educational institutions and cultural facilities. Other paths included career options such as IT-related companies, web, graphic, and product design, programming, art, entrepreneurship, as well as continuing on into doctoral programs.
